    T-thank you so much! I’ve been dying for another episode

  • Gitaroo

    awesome episode

  • Name

    Steins;Gate is by Nitroplus, so if it does get localised it’s more likely to be by Nitroplus USA than Aksys.

  • Awesome ep guys. As far as the recent announcement of SaGa 3 remake for the DS, I say bring it on! I want to see both remakes localized but I fear S-E might not bother with the 3DS right around the corner. I’m perfectly fine with a few more DS-level RPGs.

    As far as the DS being to blame for Japan’s lack of HD know how, I have a bit of a bone to pick with that. The main technology that HD games are using (normal maps) are super easy to create with software like Zbrush. Zbrush is a little weird as far as 3D art apps go, but it’s not hard to learn by any means. It’s just that it adds another layer of work to creating a completed model (on top of modeling, UV layout, texturing), you have to do a high poly sculpt to create the normal map. This shouldn’t be difficult or expensive for most Japanese companies to do… I’d think the general game design is more of an issue.

    Steins; Gate is out for PC, you can try to use Translation Aggregator, to play it on in Eng…, a little annoying but better than nothing.

  • asdad

    any plan for a special 10 hours long TGS podcast?

  • Not sure if it’ll be 10 hours long, but our next episode will indeed be a TGS-centric one (and we’re hoping to record it right after the show is over).

  • Eelcire

    Anything ever come of that Xbox 360 tile you saw that suggested the opening up of buying imports on their DD service? I ask because PSN is soon to be opening its own import store and I would love to see Microsoft do the same (preferably removing region checks altogether).

    Also, please look into your Aksys contact about Steins;Gate. Even if it is coming to PC, it would still be a great title to bring over to see if other auidences are ready for the ADV genre on consoles.

  • asdad

    ask Aksys to bring Ketsui, dodonpachi 1.5 and MuchiMuchiPork/Pink Sweet bundle over first ๐Ÿ™‚

  • My guess would be if that import store thing Nick saw (or thinks he saw) ends up being real, the most likely time to reveal it would be with the dashboard update coming in November.

  • asdad

    Aksys put up a poll for the next localization

    voted for – Dodonpachi Dai-Fukkatsu ๐Ÿ™‚

    seems like Sony will be adding an import sections for US PSN, starting with Cho Aniki, hopefully, Dodonpachi games. That game is the best for PSP in tate mode, control better than iphone ports and looks amazingly sharp on PSP screen.

    @Eelcire
    but that is the problem I see. The audience just isn’t ready yet for these kinds of games. Mangagamer.com can’t even sell 2000 copies.

  • No

    @Eelcire and Cosign
    but that is the problem I see.

    The problem I see is that Aksys is not Nitroplus USA, so does not have rights to localise Nitroplus games.

    Nitroplus USA are the only ones that can translate Nitroplus games, why does no one listen to me ;_;

  • Eelcire

    As far as I know, Nitroplus USA and JAST USA focus only on the PC platform; and looking through their titles mostly ergo.

    This is why it has been suggested that Aksys (or another publisher) try to license Steins;Gate for a US release, or more specifically the Xbox 360 version of Steins;Gate. Nitroplus USA or JAST USA handle the PC version while Aksys does the console version. Unless you feel that Nitroplus or JAST want to get into the console business as well.

    Besides, what does it matter who publishes the game…AS LONG AS IT GETS LOCALIZED AND PUBLISHED!

  • No

    @Eelcire

    There is no way S;G would come out in the west on consoles before it comes out on PC.

    There is no existing market for Visual Novels on consoles (in the west) and there is a moderately big market for PC VNs.

    There is no reason they would ever try and dive into the untested console market with some third party publisher when they already have Nitroplus USA localising and selling games on PC.

    It’s like asking if Aksys will publish the latest Atlus game. No, Atlus USA will publish Atlus games and Nitroplus USA will publish Nitroplus games.

    Also… about “AS LONG AS IT GETS LOCALIZED AND PUBLISHED”: I know of three separate fan translators who said they would do it if Nitroplus USA doesn’t ๐Ÿ˜€
