Great episode as always (the link seems to be busted right now, but I listened to it when it was released). As someone who’s been gaming since the Atari days I’ve seen everything progress to where we are now. It seems to me that we’ve essentially reached the end of the hardware arms race when it comes to graphic capabilities. Every company now has the equivalent of nuclear first strike capability. Long gone are the days where 256 simultaneous colours on screen had a noticeable impact between generations. Screen resolution is basically at a stage where the eye can no longer distinguish improvement. Frame rate possibilities are already well beyond what we can even perceive. I think that until we start getting into some completely new display methods (like holograms or something), were at the end of the road. VR doesn;t *really* count either; it’s just the same stuff but 2 inches from your eyes with motion tracking. It’s not really a revolution but more of an evolution.
That being said, as two people from my generation but with past and current industry experience, what do you see for the future of hardware in 5 years? What about 10 years?
